Intrusive thoughts pop in at the most inconvenient times and the rituals you feel compelled to do constantly make you late or hold you back from getting on with your day. Your performance at school or work is affected by these things, and you feel overwhelmed by the ongoing chaos inside your mind.
Maybe your worrying thoughts and compulsions have to do with…
Concerns about your morality
Sexual or violent thoughts that feel inappropriate
Fear that you will cause something bad to happen to yourself, your loved ones, or the world
Pulling your hair out or picking at your skin
Fear of germs, contamination, or getting sick
Doing things over and over again until they feel “right”
Whatever kinds of thoughts are disrupting your life, know that therapy with me is a nonjudgmental, safe space where you can be open about any challenges you are facing.
HOW IT WORKS
In our initial session, I'll begin by getting to know your story. We'll talk about what's been going on in your life, your strengths, and the things that have been challenging lately. This will help me understand how OCD is affecting you and tailor my approach accordingly.
Next, we’ll use a scale to measure how OCD impacts you day-to-day, which will help us set goals for our work together. I'll explain more about OCD and the type of therapy we'll use, which is called Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy, or ERP. If you have any questions or worries about OCD or treatment, we'll discuss those too.
Some people initially feel unsure about ERP therapy and whether they want to change their rituals. We can start by exploring what matters most to you and what you want your life to look like. If OCD is getting in the way of those things, we’ll figure out ways to move forward together.
When we start the process of ERP, we'll take it step by step. We'll make a list of things you find challenging, beginning by confronting the easier ones first, then moving toward the tougher ones when you're ready. I’ll support you through facing these challenges, and you'll decide the pace of the work—we can go as fast or slow as you’d like, as long as you're feeling progress.
We'll do some of these exercises during sessions, and I'll give you some to do at home, too. The more you practice outside of our time together, the quicker you can see things change in a positive way. If any obstacles come up, like overwhelming emotions or logistical issues, we'll tackle them together.

OCD can develop from a mix of genetic, biological, and environmental factors. Sometimes it can start after a stressful event, but it often builds up over time and might run in families. You can break the cycle by learning to manage compulsive thoughts and behaviors through therapy.
-
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a type of therapy commonly used to treat OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder). It works by gradually exposing you to situations or thoughts that trigger anxiety while helping you resist the urge to perform compulsive behaviors. By facing these fears in a controlled way and learning not to respond with compulsions, you can reduce anxiety over time and regain control over your life. It's like practicing facing your fears bit by bit, which can lead to feeling more empowered and less controlled by anxiety.
-
Trichotillomania is a condition where people feel an irresistible urge to pull out their hair, whether it's from their scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or other areas. It can lead to noticeable hair loss and emotional stress. We can work together to understand your triggers and develop a personalized plan to manage and overcome the behavior.
